Archer's First Downtown LA Vertiport Lands at L.A. LIVE

Archer Aviation and AEG announced on August 24, 2026, a multi-year partnership to build downtown Los Angeles' first electric air taxi vertiport at L.A. LIVE, the four-million-square-foot sports and entertainment district next to Crypto.com Arena. The deal makes Archer the exclusive air taxi provider for the district and adds a flagship downtown stop to its planned Los Angeles network ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Background

A vertiport is a dedicated takeoff-and-landing site for eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft, built with charging infrastructure and passenger facilities much like a small airport terminal. Archer has spent 2026 assembling a network of these sites across Los Angeles — including Hawthorne Airport, its operational hub — but until this announcement, none had been confirmed in the dense downtown core where traffic congestion is worst and demand for a faster alternative is highest.

L.A. LIVE, home to the Peacock Theater, The Novo, and the GRAMMY Museum, sits directly beside the Los Angeles Convention Center and draws large crowds for concerts, sports, and conventions year-round. AEG, the district's operator and one of the world's largest live-entertainment companies, and Archer completed an initial feasibility study covering land use, airspace, power availability, and community impact before confirming the site.

What Was Announced

Under the exclusive agreement, Archer will be the sole air taxi operator serving L.A. LIVE once the vertiport is built, connecting the district to other planned network stops including SoFi Stadium, USC, and Hollywood Burbank Airport. Archer's aircraft, called Midnight, is a piloted, all-electric eVTOL rated for speeds up to 150 mph that the company says can turn hour-long ground trips across LA into 10- to 20-minute flights, with far less noise than a helicopter and zero operating emissions.

To mark the announcement, Archer displayed a Midnight aircraft in Team USA livery at L.A. LIVE on August 24 and 25, 2026. According to Archer, Midnight has completed Phase 3 of the FAA's four-phase type-certification process, with Phase 4 — the final stage before commercial service — now underway. The vertiport's chargers will use hardware from BETA Technologies, Archer's partner in the ACES (America's Consortium for Electric Skyways) charging network announced earlier this year.

"This is an ambitious project and exactly the kind of forward-thinking collaboration that blends infrastructure and technology," AEG's Nick Baker said in the companies' joint announcement. Archer CEO Adam Goldstein called the partnership a "one-of-a-kind opportunity to add a flagship downtown location" to the network.

Why the 2028 Olympics Timeline Matters

Archer is the Official Air Taxi Provider of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games and of Team USA, and downtown Los Angeles — the DTLA zone — is set to host 18 sports during the Games. That gives Archer a hard deadline: any vertiport it wants operating for Olympic crowds needs regulatory approval, construction, and public confidence in the technology locked in well before opening ceremonies in 2028.

Neither company disclosed a construction start date, opening date, or cost for the L.A. LIVE site. The announcement is a site commitment and completed feasibility study, not a built vertiport — Archer's Midnight aircraft still has to clear the FAA's remaining certification phase before any passenger flights, at L.A. LIVE or elsewhere, can begin.
