DJI Terra 5.3.0 Adds Thermal Mapping and AI Assistant

DJI released version 5.3.0 of DJI Terra, its professional drone mapping and photogrammetry software, on July 23, 2026. The update adds native 2D thermal mapping, video-based 3D reconstruction, an integrated AI assistant, and rolling-shutter camera support — the broadest single release for the platform since version 5.2.0 shipped in April 2026.

Background

DJI Terra is DJI's mission-planning and data-processing software for enterprise drone operators. It covers the full workflow: automated mapping flight plans, in-flight data capture, and final deliverables such as orthomosaics, digital elevation models, LiDAR point clouds, and photogrammetry-based 3D models.

The software pairs with DJI's Enterprise drone line — including the Matrice 4T, Matrice 350 RTK, and Mavic 3 Enterprise series — and is standard tooling for aerial mapping, infrastructure inspection, and agricultural surveying operations worldwide. Before 5.3.0, generating a georeferenced thermal map required processing thermal data in a separate program and manually aligning it to the visual map — an extra step every thermal inspection job had to repeat.

What's New in Version 5.3.0

Thermal mapping is the feature with the most immediate practical impact. Inspection teams working on solar farms, transmission lines, or industrial roofs can now produce a finished thermal map inside one project instead of exporting data to a second application. Video-based reconstruction targets a different use case — rapid recon flights or emergency surveys, where recording continuous video is faster in the field than planning a photo mission with calculated overlap.

Compatibility and System Requirements

Thermal mapping in 5.3.0 works with DJI Enterprise's thermal sensors: the Mavic 3 Thermal, Mavic 3 Enterprise/Thermal, Mavic 3TD, and the Matrice 4 Thermal/4T/4TD series. Drones without a thermal sensor continue to work normally with the software's other modules.

DJI has also dropped support for Windows 7 in this release. DJI Terra 5.3.0 requires Windows 10 or later to install, so operators still running older workstations need to update their operating system before applying the update.

What This Means for Drone Pilots

One software for thermal inspection. Operators running thermal camera inspections on solar arrays, power lines, and industrial buildings no longer need a second program just to align thermal data with a visual map, shortening the turnaround time on client deliverables.

Less field setup for rapid surveys. Video-based reconstruction helps in situations where planning an automated photo mission isn't practical — a quick flyover after a storm or a structural incident can now generate a usable 3D model from a simple video pass, a workflow that also benefits routine infrastructure inspection work.

Fewer format conversions for engineering handoffs. Native LAS/LAZ export removes a conversion step for operators delivering LiDAR point clouds to survey and engineering firms — common on construction and large-property agricultural mapping jobs.

Check your operating system first. Operators still running Terra on Windows 7 machines need to plan an OS upgrade before installing 5.3.0, or the update will not install.
