Launched in August 2018, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro introduced a Hasselblad 1" sensor in a foldable drone body — a combination previously unavailable at any price. For four years, it was the go-to drone for professional aerial photographers worldwide. Officially discontinued in 2022, it loses DJI technical support on August 31, 2026.

Hasselblad L1D-20c Camera

The 1" CMOS sensor with 20 MP and Hasselblad color science (HNCS) was the defining feature of this drone. Compared to the 1/2.3" sensors prevalent in consumer drones of its era, the 1" sensor offered significantly better dynamic range and low-light performance.

Variable aperture f/2.8 to f/11, 28mm equivalent, 10-bit D-Log M at 100 Mbps. For aerial photographers who process in Lightroom or Premiere, the image files from the Mavic 2 Pro remain of usable professional quality even today.

Should You Buy One Used?

On the used market (roughly $600–900 depending on condition), the Mavic 2 Pro remains a capable professional tool for daytime photography. Key caveats:

  • DJI support ends August 2026; firmware updates and DJI Care renewals will no longer be available
  • Batteries may be at or near end of life depending on cycle count — test before buying
  • The 1" sensor, while good, is surpassed by the Air 3S's 1" sensor with newer technology and better video specs

For buyers who need omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, excellent stills, and can find a unit in good condition for under $700, it's still a legitimate option. For new buyers at full market price, the Air 3S at $1,099 is a better investment.
