The DJI Avata 360, launched in early 2025, solves the Avata 2's biggest limitation: the absence of front and rear obstacle detection. With sensors in all directions, the Avata 360 can fly in complex environments — interiors, corridors, forests, urban spaces — with an unprecedented level of safety for an FPV drone.

Omnidirectional Obstacle Avoidance in an FPV

Integrating APAS 360° into an FPV drone is technically challenging: the aggressive maneuvering and high speeds of FPV flight can conflict with avoidance algorithms designed for slower platforms. DJI's implementation uses the avoidance actively in Normal and Slow modes, while allowing the pilot to disable it in Sport mode for unrestricted speed.

The result: a drone you can confidently fly through a doorway, around furniture, under a bridge, or through tree gaps — with the safety net of avoidance preventing catastrophic collisions when the pilot misjudges clearance.

Camera and Performance

The camera system is identical to the Avata 2: 1/1.3" CMOS, 4K/60fps, D-Cinelike 10-bit, 155° FOV. Maximum speed is also 135 km/h in Sport mode. The Avata 360 weighs slightly more (450g vs 377g) due to the additional sensors.

Avata 2 vs. Avata 360: Which to Buy

Buy the Avata 2 if: you plan to fly mostly in open outdoor spaces, budget is a consideration, and you're comfortable being responsible for obstacle awareness.

Buy the Avata 360 if: you plan to fly in confined spaces (interiors, buildings, urban canyons), you're a beginner who wants maximum safety margin, or you're producing commercial content where a crash is unacceptable.
