Launched in March 2024, the DJI Avata 2 redefines what's possible with an FPV drone for those without racing experience. Where traditional FPV drones require hundreds of hours in a simulator and electronics knowledge to build and tune, the Avata 2 lets someone with zero FPV experience make immersive cinematic flights on the first day.

FPV Without the Learning Cliff

The Avata 2's key innovation is the RC Motion 3 controller: a single-handed motion controller where the pilot tilts their wrist to control direction. Combined with the optional DJI Goggles 3, it delivers first-person immersive flight at up to 135 km/h with a low barrier to entry.

The FPV Remote 3 (traditional stick controller) is also compatible for those who want precise manual control.

Built-in propeller guards make the Avata 2 flyable in tight indoor spaces — offices, warehouses, under bridges — where an unguarded FPV drone would be unacceptably risky.

Camera Quality

The 1/1.3" CMOS with 4K/60fps and D-Cinelike (10-bit) color profile produces footage with genuine cinematic flexibility. Wide 155° FOV captures immersive perspectives typical of action sports. The three-axis gimbal stabilizes for smooth footage even at high speeds.

Limitation: Obstacle Avoidance Is Lateral Only

Unlike the regular Mini and Air lineup, the Avata 2 only detects obstacles on the left and right sides. Front and rear detection are absent — deliberate, as frontal detection at high speeds would interrupt the flow that makes FPV compelling. Pilots must be visually aware of their forward path at all times.

The Avata 360 (launched 2025) adds full omnidirectional obstacle avoidance for those who need it.
